Strategic Themes

Strategical Themes

For each theme that has been agreed upon there are stipulated targets and goals which are set and a way of assessing the performance criterion. They are then recorded and ceaselessly kept track of.
Like the foundations of a building themes serve as the foundation of company plans and ensures that the structures are kept. Themes are the mainstay that determine what direction the company will take and the major drive behind growth.
Using this base there are plans made in detail, achievement measurements and strategies implemented. These are all supported by agreed timelines.
Themes are the pillars of strategical planning. While it is important to note that the problems lie in the detail themes assist in helping to get to that agreement.

Themes

Are you able to list down ten matters that are crucial. However when things get tight which of these will be the 3 most important.
Think of a strategical theme like a load bearing structure. They are there to support and provide the necessary structure and the limits for the strategic scorecards. They are ther to show how the business is determined and the overall model of the business.
Strategical goals help you to keep a focus on your priorities for at least 3 years which will be hampered by lots of distractions and assisted by a little number. The less there are and the more they are segmented the easier it will be for your team to remember them and assisting in keeping the focus and action in line with this.
This does not mean that there must be a lot of detail left out in the overall planning of the growth. Strategical themes need to be structured in such a way that they are balanced and that they include all the essential aspects for the future development. The themes should be consistent and form a strong base to work from. They need to be backed up by well thought out plans of operation and have sufficient resources.
Strategies form the basis of top level business plans and themes help form the company's business model. They form part of the planning process and a method of creating a consistent measurement system of the company's performance. Once there is an agreed vision of the company ( a mental image of where you would like the company to be in the future) and then you break up the vision into different themes but no more than four. These are often referred to as "pillars of excellence". These have a very wide scope. These apply to every aspect of the business and determine where the main drive will focus to achieve this vision. Themes need to touch on all the four factors for a balanced scorecard which include finances, customers, internal procedures and management ability. Every strategical theme need to be excelled in to accomplish the final vision.
These are two main areas that a company needs be focused on. They are mainly linked to the position of the organization regarding customers or financial achievements. Themes are concentrated on the final goal. How the company takes care of other strategies like internal procedures, dividends and operating in general has nothing to do with the themes.
A study of strategical themes have shown that a well balanced theme has a life which ranges from 1 1/2 years up to 3 years which is dependent on the type of industry, organization and the planning method. Therefore a well constructed theme serves as direction for the company to follow and which allows for specific actions to be taken to achieve the goals with realistic changes.
An alternative definition is that significant segmented theme start with a verb. By using the word action it injects energy and shows movement in a certain direction. It also does not need to be a long document but short and to the point.

Formulating Strategic Themes

Lots of companies will use strategical themes in conjunction with their strategies. They can work together to achieve the desired result. It can also help with the communication process with shareholders and showing the relationship between long term vision with the steps to get there.
Strategical Themes include
Excellent service and operations
Precise management and leadership
Leaders in their field regarding products
Strive for continuing improvements and educating

Strategical themes are specifically for your organization and is the main plan of how you are going to achieve these goals using the strategies that have been formed for the business.
An approach of constructing themes into a strategical plan is to come up with between 3 to 5 different themes that are essential to the company's overall goals and what they want to achieve. Once you have determined the themes then you need to determine the targets on the strategical map. You do this with every theme that have been formulated. Some organizations will use mini strategy maps with each theme and use arrows for the cause and consequence for each mini map

Using Themes

Imagine pillars that were made to hold up structures in the ancient Greek buildings is exactly what a strategic theme resembles. They serve as the foundation of focused drives for new development and direction.
Using this basic method a person can formulate specific planning actions, what resources are available and what time periods will be required to complete those plans.
A theme can provide the foundations for strategical plans. It is also a great way to communicate the strategies to the team and have an easy reference point for the whole team about the goals and timelines. Once it becomes known it gets all the staff working towards a common goal.
When a strategy is formed numerous assumptions are made about causes and effects and have a multitude of different scenarios and coupled with this those that have the best chance of succeeding.
